If you are interested in starting training with us you are more than welcome to watch a class first. But you will benefit much more from joining in and giving it a try, and don't forget the first class is FREE.
No you are not, there is no upper age limit. As long as you are mobile and willing you will be able to take part. If you have injuries of medical condition that prevent you from doing certain thing we will offer alternative techniques for you.
Ju Jitsu training very physical but because of the controlled way it is practised injuries are very rare. Every black belt at Optimal Martial Arts is trained in first aid and are fully DBS cleared. After your first four weeks of training you will need your own insurance, which comes with your martial arts licence provided by NAKMAS, the UK Martial Arts governing body, and WYSOK (West Yorkshire Schools of Karate and Oriental Arts).
No; if you have an illness or disability and can’t do certain things (i.e. kick) then we will teach you other things that you would be able to do. As long as you are physically mobile you should be able to participate.
It takes a lifetime to learn, as there is no limit and you are constantly learning. But to give you a rough idea, with regular training you should learn enough to achieve your first belt in around 4 month.
If you wish to compete we have two tournaments a year within the association (WYSOK). One in May and one in November. We do encourage all students that are able to compete but we never force them, it will always be your decision.
We do not charge a fee to join the club, however if you decide to continue training after the first 4 weeks we would ask you to get a martial arts licence, this also includes insurance. The cost of this is £25 for the year.
